Overview

During this one-hour session we will explore new ways of seeing and making marks and images. Following an artist talk by Tanvi - an interdisciplinary artist based in the South East of England, the group will discuss where we are in our student journey right now and what we hope to gain.

Marks and images are created with lines, shapes and colours. A degree of abstraction occurs as we combine our imagination, hand gestures and materials to create a synthesis of what we see, notice, feel and question. As with all Welcome Week events, both new and returning students are invited to join this session.

You will need the following materials: Paper, pencils, pens, scissors and printed materials such as magazines, junk mail or catalogues

Optional additional materials if you have them: Coloured pencils, felt markers, paints, brushes and water, needle and sewing thread and anything else you think you might like to experiment with.

Session overview:

  • Introduction to Tanvi’s art practice
  • Discussion in response to prompts for group to think about during making session
  • Demonstrations of techniques by Tanvi
  • Making activity with questions and further demos on request
