Societies tend to be more formal organisations than clubs. They will have elected posts such as Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, and will be required to have an AGM and produce accounts on an annual basis. Societies often offer field trips, revision weekends, workshops and socials. Societies can also apply for funding from the Association, can attend regular Society Committee Meetings, and are entitled to a presence at our bi-annual Conference.
You can find out more about societies and how to set one up in our societies guidelines. You can also email us at oustudents-societies@open.ac.uk for help in setting up your society.
If setting up a society sounds like too much of a commitment to start with, you can begin by setting up a club. There is the option to turn your club into a society later down the line if you wish.
