Hello, my name is Narindra and I am the Chair of the OU Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students Group. I am currently a first-year student studying full-time for a BA (Honours) in Criminology and Law.
I worked in the public sector for 27 years, three years after retiring I decided to do my degree at the age of 52.
For the past 15 years, I have been passionate about raising awareness of forced marriages/honour abuse, domestic violence, and mental health. I have had the honour and privilege to speak on various platforms and meet some truly amazing people on this journey, survivors, and campaigners alike.
In March 2023 I was elected as a CSW67 (Commission on the Status of Women) UN Women UK Delegate where I was able to link into live debates and discussions taking place in New York to tackle inequality faced by women and girls globally.
As a person of colour, a female, and a sufferer of a disability, I understand barriers, I have faced many throughout my life and I know how challenging they can be without the right support. I also know doing a degree through distance learning can be quite lonely, challenging and at times overwhelming. Using my own experiences, I want to assist and support students in this group and make sure you can be heard.
