Heya – I’m the newly-appointed Secretary for OU Pride for the 2025–26 term, and I go by KJ and use he/him pronouns!
I am a trans-masc, aro-ace, 19-year-old from East Ayrshire in Scotland. I am also neurodivergent and chronically ill, and am both care-experienced (as I spent many years of my teenhood within the English foster care system) and provide support to a close family member as an unofficial young carer.
I am a first-year part-time student of Psychology and Counselling, with aspirations to become a counsellor specialising in survivors of intimate forms of violence. Outside of my studies, I spend a lot of time with my cat Chester or providing support for the aforementioned relative, or doing various arts-and-crafts, such as diamond painting and pixel sticker by numbers.
My main goal as a member of the OU Pride Committee is to research and provide an abundance of resources and signposts to various LGBTQ+ support services – to ensure that members of the community are aware of services local and accessible to them, for a range of different issues.
Further to this, another particular goal that I have – and share with my fellow Committee members – is to work in alliance with the other Support Groups (DSG and BAME), and to work collaboratively to meet the needs and interests of members who may be a part of multiple groups.
