Peer Support is a study support service. It is a confidential service but is subject to Safeguarding legislation. The Peer Support Team comprises:
- Peer Supporters (student volunteers)
- Peer Support Admin (OU Students Association Student Support Team)
- Vice President Student Support
The paramount purpose of the service is to build students’ confidence and autonomy to support them with their studies. In order to do this our Peer Support Volunteers operate under a pseudonym (to help maintain confidentiality and anonymity) and offer help and support to Students who request it.
Peer Support is not a counselling service (e.g. support with emotional issues and mental health). As a Peer Supporter you will be trained to identify when to signpost Students elsewhere. However, this doesn’t mean that Peer Supporters can’t be empathic when in contact with Students. Information about the Peer Support service and contact details are primarily published on:
- Student Home
- OU Students Association's website and other social media channels
Below you can access our Peer Support Guide and a range of 'how to..' guides which have been created to support you in your role.
