Celebrating excellence with a new nomination process

Back in 2022 the Students Association launched the Tutor Awards, an award dedicated to OU Tutors, decided by OU students.

This year, we introduced some exciting changes designed to improve the experience for everyone involved. For the first time in three years, nominations were submitted via the OU Students Association website, replacing the previous Microsoft Forms submission process. This change contributed to a streamlined, engaging and transparent nomination experience.

Alongside this change, we also made the judging criteria available during the nomination process based on feedback from participants of the 2023 awards. This change addressed the need for clearer guidelines on how the nominations would be judged and ensured everyone had a clear understanding of what the judges were looking for, such as: impact on progress, initiative and creativity and personal skills and attributes allowing nominators to better tailor their submissions.

Participation and nominations

Nominations for the 2024 awards opened in April and closed in May. In total, we received 155 nominations with 138 tutors nominated. Additionally, 54 nominators expressed an interest in volunteering to be part of a judging panel when they placed their nomination.

In June and July 2024, four panels of student volunteers met to consider the nominations and made a recommendation of one winner and one runner-up in each faculty. Each judging panel was chaired by a Student Leadership Team member.
