Student Voice Festival sessions

Student Voice Festival is fast approaching, and the Students Association are running a sustainability session that we would love you to attend.

The session, 'Sustainability for OU Students: what’s important to you?', is being held online on Thursday 7 March from 10:30 to 11:30 am.

This is an interactive session and by attending you will be sharing what sustainability issues are important to you.

In sharing your thoughts and opinions in this session, you will be helping to shape future sustainability work at the OU and the Students Association.

Ahead of the session, if you like, you could have a think about the following questions which will be discussed during the session:

  • What events would you like to see?
  • What changes could be introduced on your student journey to promote sustainability?
  • Where do you think sustainability should be included in the curriculum?

The session is being hosted by members of the Students Association Environment and Sustainability Group. If you want to read more about the work we are doing to tackle sustainability issues, have a look at our page on the Students Association website.

The OU are also running a sustainability session at Student Voice Festival, ‘Sustainability and eco anxiety at the OU’ on Monday 26 February 10 –11am. This session gives you another opportunity to share your opinions on sustainability work at the OU and what support and advice you would like to see for students dealing with feelings of eco-anxiety.

Sign up for the sessions by registering for Student Voice Festival. Search for the sustainability sessions by clicking the magnifying glass and selecting ‘Sustainability’ from the ‘Track’ drop-down.

Responsible Futures auditor opportunity

The Open University and OU Students Association are currently engaged in exciting work collecting evidence to demonstrate how we embed sustainability in the curriculum. We hope this will lead to receiving the Responsible Futures accreditation.

We are looking forward to welcoming a small number of OU students to volunteer as auditors who will look through the evidence collected by the OU and Students Association and depending on the number of criteria completed, the OU can achieve either a ‘working towards Responsible Futures’ or ‘Responsible Futures’ accreditation.

Read more about the opportunity and apply by reading this news article.

OU Environmental Sustainability Society

This new and exciting society is for students, former students and staff at The Open University who are passionate about protecting the environment and sustainability.

The society is eager to welcome new members and is also looking for students to join the committee where a range of roles are available.

Read more about the OU Environmental Sustainability Society and contact them via their society page on our website.

Love Student Leftovers

In other sustainability news...win £100 in the Love Student Leftovers competition!

Love Student Leftovers are hosting a fun and innovative competition for university students asking them to create dishes from their leftover food to raise awareness of food waste.

There are three categories to choose from, each with a £100 prize. You could create a dish either using whole fruit and vegetables (anyone heard of using banana peel for vegan bacon?!), rescued and repurposed food or 'throw-it-all-in cooking' using what you have already in your house (and clearing clutter in the process!).

The competition is open now and will close at midnight GMT on 25 March 2024.
