Six months of representation from the Student Leadership Team

We reflect on all of the issues on which the Student Leadership Team have represented OU students’ interests over the past six months.

The Student Leadership Team are six months into the 2022-24 term, and have so far ensured that OU students are represented about and kept informed about the issues affecting their studies and student experiences. These include:

• The university pay and pensions dispute and resulting industrial action taken by the Universities and Colleges Union, including Open University staff.
• The Open University’s financial and business planning to address a financial deficit with a plan to return to surplus in four years.
• Delays to OU students receiving their module results.
• The cost of living crisis
• The provision of alternative formats for module materials

Vice President Education, Laura Marulanda-Carter, said “It’s important to have the student voice involved in these important issues that will have a significant impact on many students.

“We’re really proud to be able to speak on behalf of students as their elected representatives, and ensure the Open University keeps students in focus when making decisions.”
