This opportunity is now closed. If you would like to get involved in voluntary work at the Associaton please visit the volunteering section of our website.

Are you available on the 23 and 24 April? Do you want to audit The Open University?

The Open University and OU Students Association are currently engaged in exciting work collecting evidence to demonstrate how we embed sustainability in the curriculum. We hope this will lead to receiving the Responsible Futures accreditation.

We are looking forward to welcoming a small number of OU students to volunteer as auditors. Each volunteer auditor will be fully trained on the criteria and what they need to audit through a half-day of training. In small groups auditors will then complete the audit over the remaining one and a half days.

When is the audit?

To take part in this opportunity you will need to be available for the two-day audit on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 April (this includes the auditor training) from 9:30am to 5:30pm. This audit will take place online.

If you like the sound of this, but don’t have availability for the two days, you could join in by taking part in a student focus group on 23 April. You can express interest in this on the form linked below.

What is a ‘Responsible Futures’ accreditation?

Responsible Futures is certification of a whole institution’s commitment to holistic sustainability spanning the formal and informal curriculum, applicable to both further and higher education. The Responsible Futures certification indicates the institution has an enabling environment for sustainability to thrive, rather than an endpoint.

Depending on the number of criteria completed, the OU can achieve either a ‘working towards Responsible Futures’ or ‘Responsible Futures’ accreditation. Having participated in Responsible Futures this year, the OU will need an audit to verify their level of achievement…and this is where we are excited to receive your application to be a student auditor.

What skills do I need?

No technical knowledge is needed. Full training will be provided to fit in with any learning or access requirements. All you need is an interest in sustainability and social responsibility and to be available for the audit days – 23 and 24 April 2024.
