We are deeply saddened by the recent violent racist riots that have spread across the UK, perpetuated by racial hatred and Islamophobia. These violent attacks have left a significant impact on Muslims and People of Colour (POC) and all of us at the OU Students Association stand in solidarity with our Muslim students and staff, our POC students and staff and everyone affected by these disturbing events.
The aggressive atmosphere we are witnessing is deeply troubling, and we believe that everything must be done to promote peace rather than the division and chaos that has been incited across the country by racist extremists. Our Muslim communities and Communities of Colour are being unfairly scapegoated, and this must end. The OU Students Association would like to urge our politicians and media outlets to take decisive action to address the root causes of these violent attacks to prevent any further incidents.
In these challenging times, it is crucial to remember that hope and community are stronger than hate. Let us continue to stand together, support one another, and work towards a society where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. We encourage you to use the services available and reach out to your networks and communities for support during these incredibly difficult times.
