The Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Group is an open-minded group set up to help bridge the gap between BAME learners and the OU. Many of the BAME learners have asked about the support available to them and about setting up a social/support group to help. The BAME group is planning to have drop-in virtual catch ups once a month over the course of the year. We will also be advertising and sharing our BAME Facebook group so please do share to help spread the word. We are hoping to create a supportive and helpful environment so that we can champion best practice in helping learner journeys. Do share your experiences and stories of how your OU study has been so far. It’s from your narratives (both positive and negative) that we can build a better future for more BAME learners to close the attainment gap. Statistically, many BAME learners drop out of study due to numerous reasons and the attainment gap is high between white and BAME learners, with more white learners successfully graduating than BAME learners.
