The Open University Law Society (OULS) is an active and supportive society for OU Law students. We hold mooting workshops and competitions, alongside competing against other universities.
The Open University Law Society (OULS) is an active society run by current students and alumni who are dedicated to support OU law students. The society welcomes anyone with an interest in the legal sector.
The OULS organises a range of events, such as guest lectures, careers events and social events, which provide an opportunity for members to network and socialise. It is also a way for students to access information and help regarding their studies and future careers in law. Most events take place online, but some are face-to-face. Examples are court visits and talks on various topics by academics, legal professionals and prominent politicians. Other examples are quizzes and drop-ins. The OULS also sends a monthly newsletter.
The OULS runs mooting workshops and internal mooting competitions. There is also a possibility to represent the Open University in external mooting competitions. Even for students who do not wish to pursue a career at the Bar, mooting can still be beneficial, as students can gain a lot of useful skills, such as research skills, analytical skills, confidence, presentation skills, public speaking, written and spoken advocacy skills, teamwork and thinking on your feet. It also enhances your CV.
Membership is £5 per year.
