Consistency of tutors on a module

I don't think I've been on any module where the tutors were consistent with what they told us or looked for in TMAs. My most recent one had some tutors allowing longer posts on the TGF while those of us who chose twitter were limited (as the TGF was supposed to be). Posts were locked after TMA submission dates as that had been agreed module wide yet they all got reopened because some students couldn't follow instructions...

6:17pm on 18 Mar 23 Agreed and on every module bar the research project of my MSc there was general agreement among the students as to which were the good tutors and which were worse than useless like like one I had who copied and pasted the same feedback into TMAs no mater if it was easily worth a distinction or barely scraping a pass. I passed that module despite the useless tutor not because of anything he did or said. It's about time the OU systematically collected and acted on feedback from students on tutor perfomance,

6:09pm on 19 Mar 23 Agreed, the marking is my biggest issue. One tutor marks something correct yet another says it's wrong - totally unfair between cohorts. Ive had 10% deducted for being over a word limit when in fact, I wasnt. It was marked using the wrong word count. Credit where its due; my specific issue was cleared up quickly however, had I not spoken up for myself - that could have been the difference between me getting onto my chosen postgraduate or failing out.

11:28am on 4 Apr 23 Definately agree with this - also the lack of consistency between access to tutorials with your own tutor! One tutor I have had only ran their tutorials on a weekday morning - thus one (recorded) tutorial was 18 minutes long in comparison to over an hour for those with other tutors at more student friendly times.

10:20pm on 5 Apr 23 I strongly support this. We have been told for years that tutors are monitored. However, the change to tutorials, and recordings, has now given evidence about the lack of consistency - and this is not about differing academic views, it is about factual inconsistent advice and practice. I think we should be asking that Staff tutors do monitor tutorials, and even more so, TGF Forums. I don’t think that a 6 months period between the tutor posting on TGF is acceptable, although I am told the tutor is an ‘experienced tutor’.

5:36am on 8 Apr 23 I totally agree with that. Best example just happened recently. I had a question about quoting (so nothing that should depend on the viewpoint of the tutor) and when I asked the other students in my module I got 3 different answers, all quoted their tutors. This totally takes away my motivation since I am always questionning if I'd get a better mark with another tutor. (My first TMAs in this module got marked by another tutor because of illness and with her I was way better than with my tutor now, I'm talking 20% difference)
